This week I had great fun volunteering for the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival that takes place in Missoula, Montana every year. On one of my shifts, I got to help people view Antarctica through Virtual Reality goggles. It was a hoot to see the young and old explore a new world with curiosity.

We can all take a page from these folks and from science: be curious and keep an open mind. It’s good for the planet and it’s people. I love what The Brain Scoop has to say about this…and about possum nipples…13 of them?!

(What?! You don't know The Brain Scoop --- check out this incredible science vlog broadcast from the Chicago Science Museum.)

Why alula? What does alula mean?

The alula feathers are a bird's secret superpower. The alula is a small structure —like a thumb— on birds' wings that allow them elegantly maneuver in flight, especially to aid in lift, stalling and landing. Check out this article in Nature to learn more about the function of the alula.

We were inspired to name the company alula because we believe that even seemingly small contributions have the power to make long-lasting and meaningful impacts (plus, we love palindromes!).
